Since 2004, Fugar America Foundation has united the Fugar diaspora in North America with the home community across Etsako Central, Edo State, Nigeria. Together we identify the projects that matter most, and fund them through transparent, member-led giving.
Every initiative is conceived with the community, executed by the community, and accountable to the community. From upskilling to clean water to healthcare outreach, we invest where the impact stays.
Brief History of Fugar
Fugar is a town located in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. It is situated in the Southern part of Nigeria, in the Niger Delta region. Fugar is predominantly inhabited by the Afemai people, who are part of the larger Estako, Edo ethnic group.
Historically, Fugar has a rich cultural heritage and is known for its traditional institutions. It was one of the major centers of the Benin Empire in the pre-colonial Era. The Benin Empire was a powerful and sophisticated kingdom that existed in the region from the 11th century until it was annexed by the British in 1897. Fugar served as a trading post and played a significant role in the economic activities of the empire.
In modern times, Fugar has experienced development and growth. It has become a commercial hub with various markets and business activities. The town is also known for its agricultural production, particularly in the cultivation of crops such as yams, cassava, maize, and vegetables.

- 4. Warrake: Warrake is a neighboring town located to the north of Fugar. It is part of the Owan West Local Government Area and it is known for its agricultural activities.
- 5. Auchi: Is a major town in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. It is situated southwest of Fugar, approximately 30 kilometers away. Auchi is known for its bustling commercial activities, educational institutions, and cultural significance. In terms of education, Auchi is home to Auchi Polytechnic, one of the prominent polytechnics in Edo State, Nigeria.
